Beautiful Country by Qian Julie Wang
In Chinese, the word America transcribes directly to “Beautiful Country”. Qian describes her arriving in New York City in 1994 with her mother and awaiting father who had gone ahead to find work and a home in which to settle his family. Both of Qian’s parents were professors in China. However, the family was considered “illegal” in this new home, creating a world full of fear and poverty for the seven-year old.

WHAT’S THIS? THE MAKEUP REVOLUTION X DISNEY NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS COLLECTION REVIEW (BLOGTOBER – DAY TWELVE)
If you’re a fan of The Nightmare Before Christmas (and of course you are, who isn’t?) then you’ll know the time old debate surrounding the seasonal target of the film. Was it made for Halloween or Christmas? Well director Henry Selick confirmed back in 2017 that it was intended to be a Halloween movie whilst Danny Elfman who beautifully set the tone of the film with his music said that whilst it’s clearly about Christmas he always considered it to be a Halloween film. I’ll just carry on watching it from October until December every year just to be sure. That seems like the sensible thing to do, right?

Postcards from Buckinghamshire
Might be a little late in posting this blog, considering Will and I took our weekend break to a beautiful Air Bnb in Knotty Green just over 2 weeks ago now. In my defence, I’ve only just got round to looking at all of the pictures we took to see if they are any good… thankfully, I have a few to share. Just in case you weren’t aware of my new hobby of photography, I’m a beginner trying very hard to get better with the help of my A Year with my camera Workbook. Will also loves getting creative behind the camera so we both really enjoy going for walks together and taking creative shots– annoyingly I think Will is much better than I am. I’ll attempt to correctly label each image with the ‘photographer’ on images that were taken on my Nikon D5600. So this blog consists of us doing just that, walking and photography in Bucks.
WHY I STARTED SWAPPING OUT MY POWDER BLUSH (BLOGTOBER – DAY ELEVEN)
As a self confessed oily gal I’ve always made it my life’s mission to collect as many matte products as possible. Gimme all of the powders I say. The problem with that was it became increasingly difficult to move with the times and when dewy bases and ‘no makeup’ makeup because the next big thing I couldn’t keep up. Life isn’t all about chasing trends but as a blogger it’s essential that I at least try them. Some I grow to love and others, well let’s just leave those to one side shall we?

I HEART REVOLUTION X DISNEY PRINCESS SNOW WHITE COLLECTION REVIEW (BLOGTOBER – DAY NINE)
Once upon a time there was a little girl with hair black as ebony, skin white as snow and a serious aversion to most fake tans. She was also incapable of ever growing up and cherished the memories of the many Disney VHS tapes her mother bought her at car boot sales. Among her favourites was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Snow White was kind and beautiful. She allowed the girl to feel comfortable in her own skin by showing her that not all princesses looked the same and even she could be considered beautiful. …and so, decades later a collection was released and the girl rejoiced.

REVOLUTION HAIRCARE SALICYLIC ACID CLARIFYING RANGE REVIEW (BLOGTOBER – DAY EIGHT)
Did you know I’m actually a hair stylist by trade? I haven’t worked in the industry for a very long time but a piece heart will always belong to it. I’ve spoken before about the power of the right cut and finding the correct person to help you achieve it (shout out to my stylist Sian at Sian Hair & Beauty because she is the best in the biz!). Part of my journey has always been finding products that work for me (and that changes depending on the season just like your skincare!). I’ve been trialling the Salicylic Acid Clarifying Range by Revolution Haircare and it seems to be working wonders on my super oily hair and scalp! It genuinely feels like a treat to use and so much more luxurious than it’s price tag would lead you to believe.

So what do you do?
As not just a freelancer, but as a freelance copywriter this is one question I get a lot, but the answer is one that I don’t like to give a straight forward answer to. Why? Well because; everyday, every piece, every client, every topic, is different. Simply I could say; Clients come to me with a project and ask me to write it for them. But why would I want to say that when each project, brief, discussion, style, research process is different and specific to each? That’s why I love the world of copywriting so much, it’s so varied, and I get to learn as I go: When I get approached and asked to write a piece on a business, or a charity, or write a case study, or a blog for a company; it’s always a brand new piece on a whole new topic.

Montpellier, France: First Impressions of my New Home
Bonjour from Montpellier! Now, I’ve been here for just over a week and experienced my first full week at a French university, which has been something, to say the least. I figured I write you all a little post exploring some insights into French life I’ve experienced so far. Admittedly, I’m not sure if these are experiences related to the whole of France but they’re certainly things that I’ve noticed myself.
Gig Review: Twin Atlantic | Tramshed, Cardiff | 24.08.2021
It’s been a while since live music was a thing. A long, long while. Which is why, when my boyfriend and I noticed Twin Atlantic were playing at Tramshed, we couldn’t resist but to grab some tickets and welcome back live music. Naturally, I had to write a little blog post all about it, so here you go!
5 Things About French University That I Did Not Expect
Moving to France and starting a year at University Paul Valéry Montpellier has been one of the most confusing experiences of my life. From the admin that seemingly means nothing, to people casually smoking weed on campus, I’ve been perplexed by a fair few things in my two short weeks attending a French uni, so I thought I’d share my confusion with you.
The Problem with Independence
The problem with independence is that it doesn’t exist. Not in the truest sense of the word anyway. The word independence is often associated with disability, as if it’s a goal to strive towards and something to be celebrated. This idea that independence is an achievable and desirable concept is inherently ableist and impossible.
Creating a Sensory Safe Space - A Step by Step Guide
A ‘Sensory Safe Space’ is a space, usually your bedroom or a private space in your home, where you can feel completely comfortable, with as many of your triggers minimised as possible. This is so important for everyone, as we can all feel overwhelmed at times. However, for those with disabilities that are impacted by external stimuli or sensory input, these are pretty much a necessity (if possible!) These disabilities are not just the first ones that come to your mind, likely autism and sensory processing disorder, but also for a large group of chronic illnesses. Often things like bright lights and strong smells can cause migraines, nausea, seizures and physical pain for many people. If this sounds like you, here is my step-by-step guide and top tips for creating a space where these symptoms are less likely to be triggered.
Surviving Being Bedbound - Top Tips for Chronic Illness
I have now been bed-bound for over 8 months, and when I say bed-bound I mean the only times I have left my bed are to use the bathroom, to go to hospital, and the few minutes where my mum changes the bed linen. As a chronically ill and disabled person, this is something I’ve experienced before but to a much shorter extent (no more than a couple of weeks). So, I took to the internet in the search for tips for being bed-bound, and I came back with na-da! So if you’re currently bed-bound, here are the top tips I’ve learned in the past 8 months.
Disability Pride Month: A Q&A Summary

What Does Ableism Look Like?
Ableism is something disabled people experience everyday – we don’t even have to leave the house! This is a topic I have become ferociously passionate about in both a personal and professional manner because I’m a disabled person, working and volunteering with disabled people. But more importantly, I’m passionate about this because I am a person. So what does Ableism look like? Well, I have compiled a short(ish) list of the ‘Top 10 Most Common Ableist Comments I Hear’.

Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo.
Leigh Bardugo’s The Six Crows is a duology based on the Grishaverese. Six of Crows is the first book in the Six of Crows duology, set two years after the events of Ruin and Rising (Shadow and Bone trilogy). The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air #1) by Holly Black.
Isee why The Cruel Prince has gotten so much attention. It’s a truly amazing story. From the outset, there was something about the language, the universe the author builds, and the entire mood of the book that couldn’t help but captivate me. I have yet to read the next two books in the series, but I am eager to start them and write a complete series review as soon as possible. I can see why there’s so much fuss. Call me a geek for arriving late to the party, but this book is fantastic. Full Review on my Blog!

There's no denying that multitasking sounds appealing. But research shows it may be a myth.
4 Ways to Develop your Sense of Self
Our sense of refers to the perception we have of ourselves, the identity we carry around all day - when we have a strong sense of self we are able to differentiate who we are from others. For some of us, building our sense of self was not nurtured when growing up. When you aren’t given the space to develop your sense of self, you develop a weaker sense of sense.

Sticks and stones…
.... But words do hurt you. In my previous post about my journey with depression , I mentioned how destructive strangers judging me on Facebook was to my mental health. Social media is such a huge part of our day to day lives it's easy to forget that we are actually still all human beings, with real feelings. Emojis and memes mask our true feelings or reactions to things, dehumanising the faces we see on our friends lists.
Oh baby!
If you had asked me 10-15 years ago, where I would see myself at 33, I would have 100% told you, married with at least two children. Those of you who have read some of my other blogs, will know what happened on the marriage side, and it’s not something I am against, but I’m not overly concerned that I no longer have a tick in that box. But now at 33 and 3 months, those two children haven’t happened either.
Flawed chemistry
I've always thought I'm a pretty strong minded woman - thick skinned and able to cope with A LOT. So a few years ago when I found myself sobbing in a chair in my GP's office, it was NEVER something I would have predicted.
And we lived happily ever after… separately
Not many of my followers will know that by the age of 29, I had been married.... and divorced. Now I'm in a totally different place in my life, it's not something I choose to dwell on, but it's also something I'm not ashamed to talk about.

Am I A Bad Parent?
Parenting is one of many very sensitive topics for me. I always find that I’m judged by parents who swear they did no wrong & “the best they could” by their children when it’s really the complete opposite. I know this b/c I know their children so I know how they were affected & how the way they grew up now affects their parenting &/or relationships in general. In this post I talk about how my decision making has had me questioning if I’m a bad parent or not. Some of that feeling also comes from the opinions of others on how I choose to parent. I’ve been a mother for five years now & it honestly hasn’t gotten any easier for me. I’m ALWAYS going to be learning who each of my children are, what they need, how to tend to them & their emotions, etc. It’s not easy but that doesn’t stop the opinions from rolling in. When you read this post I hope that it helps ease some of what you may have been feeling as a parent. I also hope that it opens your eyes to other things. The opinions will never stop but what matters is you feeling confident in your decisions when it comes to your children.

Zucchini, Halloumi and Asparagus Slice Recipe
It’s certainly true that nourishing my body looks different in this season. I’ve come to eat more intuitively and banish good and bad vocabulary when it comes to fuelling myself. HOW TO LEVEL UP IN YOUR 20’S…
I feel like your 20s are the most chaotic and confusing time. Yes, I am in my early 20’s (so weird saying that), and I’ve learned one or two things along the way; some were through reading, lessons I had to learn the hard way, and pieces of advice I was given. Below are important reminders not only for your 20s, but 30s,40s, and even 50s.
THE ART OF ROMANTICISING YOUR LIFE
My whole system of existing loudly is this; we are here, on this earth. We occupy space, and we matter. So why go through our lives one mundane task after the other? Why never take any risks? When we determine to exist loudly, we make a promise to ourselves to feel alive, to seek the things that make our hearts happy, to squeeze every bit of life from everything. That starts by romanticising your life. And all this means is to make the ordinary parts of your life feel special in a way that brings you joy.
CHALLENGES OF A GHANAIAN BLOGGER

EDUCATING THE GIRL CHILD ABOUT SEX (SEX EDUCATION SERIES)
I know in certain homes talking about sex is taboo… shhh (everybody will think you are a spoilt child). But a lot of mistakes that happen from time to time could be avoided if a parent would sit his/her child down and explain certain natural things, such as sex, and their reproductive anatomy to them.
Convos on the Van Gogh Alive Exhibition

I was intrigued because it was said to be immersive and multi-sensory, and I love going for new and unique experiences! Five Books I rated 5 Stars
I love reading fiction. More specifically, romantic fiction and chick-lit. I know, I know it's not the most exciting to read and can be very mundane and cliche. That's why this summer I decided to widen my literature range. I discovered new and exciting authors and I definitely won't be going back to chick-lit for the time being (even if it is easy-reading and heartwarming). DISCLAIMER: This blog post includes spoilers! Below, are five books (not chick-lit, you shall be pleased to know) that I thought were truly remarkable. They have all been published fairly recently, maybe one day I will give myself the challenge of branching out to classical novels!

Brighton: Must-Visit Cafes, Bars and Restaurants
Hello and welcome to Part 2 of my Brighton blog post series (because if you couldn’t tell, I’m a big fan of Brighton now). For each of them I’ll be giving you a rough estimate on how much a visit for two costs – because who doesn’t like being fully informed?

#ProtectBlackWomen
I wrote this post out of a lot of anger and exhaustion tbh. I was tired of people mistreating black women, I was tired of hearing colorist remarks being hurled at darkskin women and people laughing. I was tired of black women being humiliated and dehumanized and the society doing nothing. I was tired of us not being protected or heard. I was just... TIRED. I still am, but writing this post helped me do my part to make sure I'm listening to black women and holding them up. I want to make sure our voices are heard. I hope you enjoy
"Stop Crying"
This post is very close to my heart because it is about sensitivity. Alot of black girls are not encouraged to show emotion or even just cry because they feel like they have to be stong all the time. For a long time, I used to be scared to show my emotions because I believed that I would be called weak. When I learned that I was an HSP or an highly-sensitive person, it brought me so much relief because I was able to just feel my emotions without judging myself for crying. For all my sensitive black girls, I see you. For all my black girls who feel like they have to put up a tough front, let your guard down and start feeling all your emotions. Hope you all enjoy!

Podcast Course Launch
Today I am so excited to be typing this post about the launch of my podcast course. The purpose behind making this course was the amount of DMs I have been sent on Instagram and the majority of them asking about my podcast. It has a word limit too for each message which doesn’t help) so I am never sure how to exactly answer these questions in a way that makes sense for the other person.

The Reality of Content Creating
"There's no way we'll ever beat the algorithm if we have to base everything we post and when we posy it off if what works best for everybody else. It takes the natural feel out of things when scheduling is involved because I start to feel like I have to post something even when I have nothing to post." I know I'm not even close to the only one facing [these] difficulties when it comes to this so I hope you enjoy my blog post.

Jollibee Cardiff Review
This review has been a long time coming. Originally, I had planned to step-up the blogging frequency over the summer but as you can see, that didn’t work out so well. In fact it didn’t work out at all, seeing as the last time I posted was at the very start of July. This post was supposed to be up a few days after the Jollibee opening but I kind of forgot. I’ve had a busy summer (working in a service station during the summer holidays is not the one, I’ll tell you that much). Anyway, enough of me grovelling about my inability to keep the blog updated and on to the main topic of this post, Jollibee.

Why is being in my 20's so confusing?
I’m constantly conflicted with these overbearing ideas that I should be working hard for the sake of my future, but also having fun whilst I’m young. I agree that I want and should do things now so that I can live the life I want, but the pressures are all rather conflicting and confusing — I’m still just trying to find my feet as an adult and I don’t really know what I fully want…

How Talking Helped Me
In many of my posts, I have said that talking about how you are feeling can help you, can save you. I say it not because I have read it somewhere or heard someone say it. I say it because I have a first hand experience with how it feels. I know exactly the difference between not venting out and venting out, first hand.
Anxiety

Imagine this. You read a great book and it is now one of your favourites. Once you’re done with it, you looked it up. Things can only go two ways from here.
Visiting World Wonders: Vatican City
This world wonder is quite different from the ‘wonders’ we have discussed till now in that it is not exactly a singular ‘wonder’ but more of an amalgamation of many ‘wonders’ if you will. It comprises many important UNESCO world heritage sites and is one that I’m so excited about because I absolutely enjoyed my visit there and I really just want to geek out about it. (Also I might as well warn you right now because there will be lots of geeking out and fact spouting, so you know, proceed with caution) Without further ado, let’s get on with talking about the world’s smallest sovereign state, home to the Pope(and some of the most culturally significant art and architecture in the world), the Vatican city-state, within the city of Rome, Italy.

MENTAL HEALTH
Mental health is the state of our psychological, emotional, cognitive, behavioural and social well-being. In simpler terms, it is the state of our mental well-being. Mental health is a serious concern. It affects the way we feel, think and react. It should be addressed and not stigmatized. Improper knowledge about it promotes negligence and a challenge to one's mental health. Proper knowledge helps in detecting threats to one's own mental health as well as to the people they are surrounded with.
GRATITUDE
Gratitude is a sense of thankfulness which is crucial in everybody's life. There are so many things in life, we are ungrateful for. But, we often forget that their are people who struggle every single day, to get over their vulnerabilities. Stop comparing your lives with others. Instead of cribbing about things you don't have, be grateful for things you are blessed with. Gratitude changes the way we look at life.

Not only that, it’s convenient and works to my schedule.

The Best Way To Use Google Sheets For Blogging (or Excel!)
Did you know you can also use Google Sheets for blogging? This was the best thing I started doing for my blog. Hands down. Before I figured out that I could be using Google Sheets for blogging, I was scribbling on pieces of paper, had a thousand notebooks on the go (okay, not a thousand, but several!), PostIt notes were stuck to every surface and everything was a complete mess. Now everything is organised. It’s colour coded, it has tick boxes, and pages are sorted into my most used sections. It has structure. By this point you may still be wondering how I use Google Sheets for blogging … and I’ll tell you: blog planning. So simple, and get it took me a long time to transition to a digital planner. But now that I have, everything is much easier, much faster, and much more satisfying. In this post, I’m going to show you how I do it (and if you stay till the end, there’s a sneaky discount code to get your hands on your very own Google Sheets planner!), and the benefit of some of the Google Sheets features.

Book Review | My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell
Published in March 2020, Kate Elizabeth Russell has sent readers into disarray with 'My Dark Vanessa'. Deemed the "modern day" Lolita, the story follows Vanessa and spans the course of her life from a teenage girl to a young woman. Although I would consider this an important read, please tread with caution as there are trigger warnings of sexual abuse, grooming, and drug and alcohol abuse. A Letter to 2020...
2020 WHAT A YEAR! A year that took us through many lows and a few noticeable highs. You were different. You gave us a reality check, it was needed but you were brutal. You taught us not to take life for granted and to make the most of every moment. You coerced us into politics and the news. You told us to open our eyes to the wider world around us and to listen to what was going on and to take action. But most importantly, you took too many lives for which you will never be forgiven.

My Natural Skincare Routine for a Bright, Restored Complexion- Featuring Alya Skin and Real-U
The rituals and habits we build around our daily lives are what keep us centred and grounded. They ensure we prioritise focus and incorporate moments of tender loving care into what can become a busy and bustling day with no reprieve. When you keep your body’s largest organ, your skin, happy and healthy, the return will be more than worth it. If you’re looking to rearrange or improve your current skincare routine or build it from the top, the vast number of products, techniques and ingredients out there can feel dizzying. If you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed already, look no further. Curating a cost effective routine that caters to your needs is more than achievable. That blushed beauty look that us women so yearn for is within reach and realistic. A well balanced complexion has less to do with how blessed you are by the genetic gods and more to do with consistent application and a thorough, well researched selection of products that are tried, tested and founded in beauty and wellness science. Ultimately, how you care for your skin is a personal matter- however, it’s necessary for you to sort through the noise to find your holy grail. Here’s what to keep in mind as you begin.

Rural Victoria Travel Diary: Princetown, Scotts Creek, Apollo Bay, Port Campbell and more!
Ah, rural Australia. What a treat! My week long trip sure reinforced that I’m a city girl at heart. That’s not to say that being out in the sticks didn’t teach me a thing or two though. During my first trimester of holidays from college I spent some time in Victoria with family. My grandma, mum, brother and I went to see my cousin Aaron and his fiancee Rachel. They recently bought a place in Princetown, a coastal village located on the Great Ocean Road and east of the Twelve Apostles. It’s about fifteen minutes from Port Campbell where the pair used to rent a house together. They were roommates at the time and worked at a local restaurant, Waves.
